Public observing sessions in the Ball State University Observatory are typically scheduled on several nights during each semester of the academic year and on one or two nights during each summer session. Sessions are held only if the weather is clear. The observatory is not heated. If it is partly cloudy you can call 285-8877 for a status report on the open house. The Ball State University Observatory is located on the roof of the Cooper Science Building with the entrance marked CP 443.
Ball State University is conducted in the Ball State University Observatory on the roof of the Cooper Science Building and at the National Undergraduate Research Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ. Student research activities are supported by student wages, Undergraduate Research Grants, Undergraduate Fellowships and Graduate Research Grants. Some research activities can be performed for academic credit. The Department of Physics and Astronomy also receives funds from the Indiana Space Grant Consortium which is funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
