3. What is the difference between a "Soft Reset" and a "Hard Reset"? How do I do it?
If your PDA locks up or freezes you may need to reset it to resume normal operation. A soft reset restarts the software while a hard reset re-powers and resets the hardware deafaults and software. Both of these types of resets do not delete data unless you perform the reset with opened, unsaved data.
PROCEDURE: A Soft reset requires you to press the recessed reset button on the bottom left corner of the PDA with the stylus. A hard reset requires you to press both the Calendar and iTask buttons (the two large outer ones) and then pushing the reset button on the bottom for about 2 seconds. When the screen begins to fade, release the Calendar and iTask buttons then the reset button. Plug in the PDA or push the reset button one more time.
4. Will I lose all of my PDA programs and data if the battery dies?
No, the programs are stored on a medium that will not erase when power is lost. However, the memory the software is loaded on to when started is lost. This is why it is important to save open work when your power is low.
5. How do I install software on my PDA?
There are two ways of installing software on your PDA, one is by executing an .EXE file from your computer and following the steps and the other method requires you to copy a .CAB or .HME file on your PDA and install it from the PDA itself.
A. For .EXEs, execute it by double clicking and follow the instructions. When asked where to install it, it's a good idea to place it on your external SD card.
B. For .CAB or .HME files you must double click on ActiveSync on your desktop and manually drag the file over. Once you've opened ActiveSync (the little green circle) you need to click on the explore button. You are presented with a directory of folders. Click on My Windows-based Device. Then click on the SD card; this where you should drag the files. If the software must be installed on the PDAs internal memory (which is limited) you should drag the file to the Windows folder. Once the file is copied tap on Start>Programs>File Explorer and find the file. Tap on the file and the program will begin installation.
6. How do I remove applications from my device?
Tap on Start>Settings>System tab and then the Remove Programs icon.
7. What is the difference between Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity?
Bluetooth is used for Personal Area Network. This technology has a much shorter range than 802.11b and is used solely to connect devices located around the user. For example, you can print from a Bluetooth enabled PDA to a Bluetooth enabled printer, or you can use your PDA contacts to dial out on a Bluetooth enabled cellular phone. It, in most instances, cannot be used to access the internet. A possible exception to this may be through a cell phone. The best way to think about Bluetooth is as a cable replacement among peripherals
WiFi, 802.11b in this case, is a method of accessing an existing network, and thus the internet. It has a much wider range, up to 100m compared to 10m for Bluetooth.
