Graduate Student Research

The Department conducts research that explores topics in environmental and natural resources. Titles of graduate theses, Master of Arts projects and dissertations completed since the year 2000 can be found in the links below.

All tenure line faculty members are able to supervise graduate student committees.

We frequently have external funding for research assistantships that provide support for students working on thesis projects. Internal grants are available through the Office of Academic Research and Sponsored Programs, as well.

Faculty Research

The faculty of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management are involved in research within a variety of environmental fields.

Dr. Brown's research efforts are aimed to improve management of soil, water, and biological communities.
Dr. Chandler specializes in international rural development, agroforestry, ethnoecology, and more.
Dr. Eflin's research has recently focused on industrial ecology, renewable energy and promoting sustainable campuses.
Dr. Godish is our air quality specialist and was recognized as the Ball State University Outstanding Researcher in 2000.
Dr. Gregg's research projects are in local park planning, environmental education, and human dimensions of resource management.
Dr. Pichtel's current work is investigating the decomposition of oily hydrocarbons in soil as affected by microorganisms and addressing uptake of heavy metals (lead, cadmium, cobalt) by green plants.
Dr. Popovicova is currently undergoing a long-term study of water quality in Prairie Creek Reservoir and the White River watershed in Delaware County, Indiana.
