The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management prepares students for careers in environmental science and management of natural resources. The programs offered by the department are designed to give students a basic scientific and socioeconomic understanding of ecosystems.
The department offers a major in natural resources and environmental management. Our minors complement many majors and broaden students' understanding of resource management. The minors can also enhance students' preparation for employment in environmental fields. The minors are in environmental management, international resource management, and in natural resources. The department also coordinates interdepartmental minors in energy and environmental policy.
Students majoring in natural resources and environmental management choose one of the following options:
- Environmental Communications and Interpretation
- Environmental Management
- Land Management
- Natural Resource Studies
- Occupational and Industrial Hygiene
- Park and Recreation Management.
All majors must complete a common core requirement. Many courses include laboratory work using sophisticated analytical equipment. Each year, students have opportunities for in-depth two-to-four-week field studies in the United States and other countries. Students are encouraged to participate in practicums or internships under the supervision of faculty members and professionals working in private consulting firms, governmental agencies, or environment education centers.
