Responsibilities:
- Continue promotion of the Middle Fork cost-share program and Best Management Practices (BMPs) within the watershed.
- Create West Fork Whitewater Management Plan working under the direction of the West Fork Steering Committee in cooperation with Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District and various federal, state and local agencies.
- Develop and conduct a biological and chemical water quality monitoring program to determine baseline conditions in the West Fork Whitewater River watershed. Monitoring activities will be in accordance with the approved Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP).
- Design and carry out an effective outreach and education program that promotes the implementation of practices that improves and conserves the natural resources with the Middle Fork Watershed.
- Develop and conduct an information campaign through the use of media tools such as flyers, pamphlets, fact sheet and press releases. Organize and coordinate meeting and field days.
- Inform targeted audiences about nonpoint source pollution and the importance o f incorporating best management practices and prevention strategies in a water shed management plan.
- Generate quarterly fiscal and project progress reports to IDEM on the status and outcomes of the proposed watershed management plan and education program.
- Develop a plan to continue the momentum the 319 Grant has started.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience and skills in a natural resources field such as agriculture, hydrology, biology, environmental science or resource management as well as two year professional experience in a related field.
The applicant should have excellent organizational, writing and speaking skills; have a working knowledge of computer and basic software programs; and be enthusiastic, self-motivated, optimistic and able to communicate and work with a diverse audience.
Compensation:
This is a grant-funded, contract position with compensation at approximately $39,000, with a completion date of August 2011.
No benefits are available and applicant would be responsible for all taxes.
