HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE (HAZWOPER) TRAINING

This course/workshop is designed to provide training to meet OSHA 40-hour and chemical emergency response requirements. It includes health and safety principles and practices associated with working with hazardous materials in the context of waste materials/contaminated sites and chemical and biological emergencies.   Academic credit is available under NREM  350/550-Hazardous Materials Health and Safety (this course is an elective in NREM major and minor programs in Emergency Management & Homeland Security expected to be offered by BSU in the fall semester of '08). Participants may sign up for academic credit or it may be taken as a workshop course without academic credit.

This course/workshop is recommended for advanced undergraduate/graduate level students in environmental management/health sciences and environmental professionals or students interested in emergency management and homeland security careers.

Certification:   Successful completion of this course will provide certification

required to work on hazardous waste sites, work with hazardous materials and respond to chemical, biological, and radiological emergencies.

Fees:    $100 (covers the cost of course materials and SCBA trainer) plus tuition for three credit hours; taken as a non-credit workshop course the total cost is $725.
