Dr. Amy Gregg has returned from the Northwest with knowledge to help improve Indiana our state parks and recreation facilities.
Gregg was offered the opportunity to work with two national parks in Washington during the fall 2008 semester - Mount Rainier National Park and North Cascades National Park. During her sabbatical, Gregg studied recreation data relating to the use of shuttle buses and observed and coached seasonal interpreters in an effort to better engage youths in the North Cascades.
Her hope is that her studies of alternative transportation efforts in national parks will improve these uses both in the Northwest and in Indiana. Gregg state that her connections with the Pacific West "have offered internships and seasonal positions for Ball State students, so [she is] trying to recruit for these opportunities." These positions will not only give NREM students the chance to explore the Northwestern U.S., but also improve the notoriety of BSU and the NREM program.
Gregg encourages students to set off on an adventure and explore the U.S. beyond the Indiana borders, "Spending a summer working in another state can really open up your awareness of all the possibilities for jobs and professional development that exist out there."
