White River Watchers to host Riverfest '08
White River Watchers to host Riverfest '08

On Saturday, July 26 from 9am until 1 pm, the White River Watchers will put the spotlight on their favorite river and invite the public to experience it with them.   The location of the event is Edgewater Park on east 10th street, near construction of the new pedestrian bridge downtown.

Canoe Country of Daleville will supply canoes and kayaks for the public to paddle from Edgewater Park to Riverbend Park, a distance of approximately 2 miles.  Personal flotation devices will also be provided.  Participants under 18 years of age will need to be accompanied by an adult or have a release signed by an adult.  Canoes that usually rent for $25 each will rent for $10 on the day of the festival, and kayak trips will cost $5 each.

Paddlers who would like to lend a hand to improving the White River are invited to participate in a mini-clean up during their trip downstream.  Prizes will be awarded to clean-up participants who bring in the most tires, the most historical object, and the most hysterical object.  Trash bags and gloves will be provided to all volunteers, along with a free sourvenir Riverfest t-shirt designed for the event.

Food will be provided by Charity's Angels, who donate their profits to various charitable institutions in Madison County.  Displays of the fish restocking effort will be on site, and river music will be heard throughout the morning.   We recommend that all participants wear sturdy shoes that can get wet.  Please come and join the fun!
