Other Funding Sources

In the past, the department has been able to offer other sources of funding for students.  Some of these funding sources are nationally recognized, while others are from within the University.

Cooper Award

This award is distributed annually to a NREM major. "Eligible students shall be taking classes in those departments at the time of the award, shall use neither tobacco nor alcohol in any form, nor any illegal drug, and shall be of good moral character. The selection for the award is to be made on quality of person rather than financial need or scholastic ability."  Funding available for this award is $300 per student.

Farmland Conservation Club Scholarship

Candidates must be a current NREM major or minor and have at least a 3.00 overall GPA and 3.20 GPA in NREM courses and shall complete the application form below. A minimum of two letters of recommendation from faculty members are also required. Funding for this award varies, as it is a community aided scholarship.

Udall Scholarship

A nation-wide scholarship has been attained by Ball State Students. The Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Foundation was authorized by Congress in 1992 to honor Congressman Udall's legacy of public service.   The Udall Scholarship competition is aimed at sophomores and juniors intending to pursue careers related to the environment, tribal health care, or tribal policy.  More information about the competition and the foundation is available at http://udall.gov.

National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology Fellowships

National Wildlife Federation's Campus Ecology Fellowships are a benefit primarily for enrolled campuses and, especially, for enrolled campuses that have applied to earn the designation of NWF Climate Champion. NWF Campus Ecology Fellows confront global warming on their individual campuses by committing to reduce net emissions on campus by 30% by 2020, approximately 2% per year. Fellows also help to educate and engage the campus community on global warming impacts and solutions.  To visit the NWF Campus Ecology Fellowship page, click here.
