The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management offers a $1,000 tuition fellowship for the academic year to a junior, senior, or graduate student with a major in the department. The award is funded by Charles O. Mortensen, Emeritus Chair and Professor of NREM, current faculty members, and alumni.
Eligibility criteria:
Candidates must be:
- A current NREM major or graduate student
Applications for the Mortensen Fellowship will require a 2-3 page proposal for a service project to benefit the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management or the local community. Applicants should contact any NREM faculty member to request their services as a mentor to supervise the proposal development and the service project. Credit, agreed upon by the faculty mentor and the applicant, may be earned in NREM 497/597 if desired.
Proposals should include:
Applicant and faculty mentor information
- Project design
- Specific goals of the project
- Anticipated outcome of the project
- How the project will benefit the department or the local community
There is no minimum GPA required for application.
