Scholarship Information
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM) offers the Alex and Anna I. Nicoloff Scholarship for Environmental Studies and the Clyde W. Hibbs Memorial Scholarship. Both scholarships are offered to NREM students who meet the criteria identified below.
The Alex and Anna I. Nicoloff Scholarship for Environmental Studies is awarded in memory of the parents of Dorothy Nicoloff who endowed the fund to support the scholarships. Up to five awards of $1,000 each will be made based on selection by the NREM faculty.The Clyde W. Hibbs Memorial Scholarship is a legacy to the department's founder, Clyde W. Hibbs. The natural Resource and Environmental Management Alumni Constituent Society has assisted with the funding of this scholarship. Up to two $1,000 awards will be made.
Eligibility criteria:
Candidates must be current NREM majors and have at least a 3.00 overall GPA and a 3.20 GPA in NREM classes.

- Junior or senior (more than 62 hours accumulated) at the time of application
Clyde W. Hibbs Memorial Scholarship
- Freshmen or sophomores (less than 63 hours accumulated) at the time of application or
- Graduate student who will be in NREM graduate program during the academic year following application

Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management
Charles O. Mortensen Fellowship
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM) offers a $1,000 tuition fellowship for the 2006-2007 academic year to a junior, senior, or graduate student with a major in the department. The award is funded by Charles O. Mortensen, Emeritus Chair and Professor of NREM, current faculty members, and alumni.

Eligibility criteria:
Candidates must be:
A current NREM major with junior or senior standing (more than 62 hours accumulated) at the time of application or
- A graduate student who will be in the NREM graduate program during the academic year following application
Applications for the Mortensen Fellowship will require a 2-3 page proposal for a service project to benefit the NREM Department or the local community. Applicants should contact any NREM faculty member to request their services as a mentor to supervise the proposal development and the service project. Credit, agreed upon by the faculty mentor and the applicant, may be earned in NREM 497/697 if desired.

Applicant and faculty mentor information
- Project design
- Specific goals of the project
- Anticipated outcome of the project
- How the project will benefit the department or the local community
There is no minimum GPA required for application.
Other Scholarships Available
Charles O. McGaughey Leadership Award
$4,532
Up to seven scholarships will be awarded for the 2004-2005 academic year. The applicant must: 1) have a minimum 3.0 GPA; 2) be enrolled as an undergraduate having completed 63 credit hours (excluding transfers) by May, 2004; 3) be enrolled in a program in the College of Business or the College of Science and Humanities; 4) be enrolled full-time (12+ hours) for both semesters of the 2004-2005 academic year; 5) demonstrate leadership and an appreciation of basic American values as evidenced by a record of achievement through community service and service to the University; 6) demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of respect for others and for the diversity of our nation; and 7) evidence no addiction to drugs or alcohol, and have no known criminal record other than misdemeanor traffic offenses. Applications are available in the Office of the Dean, College of Business or Office of the Dean or Departmental Offfices, College of Science and Humanities. Previous recipients are not eligible.
Farmland Conservation Club Scholarship Application

The Natural Resources and Environmental Management Department (NREM) is pleased to offer the Farmland Conservation Club Scholarship to NREM majors or minors who meet the criteria: candidates must be a current NREM major or minor and have at least a 3.00 overall GPA and 3.20 GPA in NREM courses and shall complete the application form. A minimum of two letters of recommendation from faculty members are also required.
Scholarships for Nontraditional Students
$1000
Scholarships are available for the 2004-2005 acedemic year. Applicants must: 1) have at least sophomore standing/completed 30 semester hours of which 15 were at BSU, 2) have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, 3) be enrolled at least half time (applies to undergraduates only), 4) be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, and 5) complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid at the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Applications for the scholarship are available at the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid (LU 245). Sponsored by BSU Women's Club.
