A Ball State University telecommunications professor will spend the first half of 2009 teaching in Greece as part of the Fulbright Program.

Dom Caristi, who was a Fulbright professor in 1995 at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, will teach University of Athens students how to produce documentaries.

"The first thing we will do in class is to look at what topics the students are passionate about," he said. "Then we'll look at what experts and facilities are available for our use. It's a wonderful opportunity to help students discover how they can create a documentary by accessing what they have right in front of them."

In addition to his assignment in Slovenia, Caristi was a visiting professor in Italy in 2002, 2005 and 2008.

The U.S. State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs sponsors the Fulbright Program, America's flagship international educational exchange effort. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement and have demonstrated extraordinary leadership potential.
