Ball State student a finalist in national video competition (9/25/2006)
A Ball State telecommunications student is one of four finalists in a national film competition.

Alex Mejia, a 21-year-old from Indianapolis, is participating in the AMD 64 Second Film Festival. Finalists recently shot inside the 2006 Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival in Austin, Texas, to create a 64-second short film about their experiences.

Films may be seen online at www.aclfestival.com/amd64seconds. Visitors to the site can vote for their favorite film. The contestant receiving the most votes wins the grand prize, including a multimedia editing system, two VIP passes to the 2007 Austin City Limits Music Festival, clothing and other merchandise, and promotion of their film on Austin City Limits' home page.

Mejia was invited to film the festival after submitting "Retrogression," which also may be found at the festival Web site.

Assisting Mejia with the project was Antonijs Prizevoits, a business administration major from Indianapolis, who also acted in the film. The students are co-owners of Tav Productions, an Indianapolis-based video company.

The four finalists' films are being promoted by mtvU, MTV's 24-hour college channel. The films are available on demand on the network's all-access broadband channel, mtvU Über at mtvU.com.

A film crew from mtvU was at the ACL Music Festival to film the students for short features promoting their final documentaries and asking for students to vote in the contest.
