MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State University will host five free concerts presented by the School of Music, College of Fine Arts from March 30 to April 2.
By Marc Ransford, Media Relations Manager- East Central Indiana Youth Symphony Orchestra--3:30 p.m. March 30, Pruis Hall. Students from area schools make up the Youth Symphony Orchestra of East Central Indiana, based at Ball State University and directed by Leonard Atherton. Their 38th season continues as conductors Georgios Kouritas and Brittany Cook lead the orchestra in works by Mozart and others.
- Trombone Choir and Brass Choir--5:30 p.m. March 30 in Pruis Hall. Directed by John Seidel, the choirs will perform works by Altenburg, Levine and others.
- Guest concert--8 p.m. March 31 in Pruis Hall. Clarinetist Dennis Nygren and tenor Tim Culver, both from the music department of Kent State University, will give a guest performance. International performer Brandt Fredrikson, who has worked with the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony, will accompany on piano.
- Jazz Combos--5:30 p.m. April 1 in Pruis Hall. Ball State's student Jazz Combos, directed by Larry McWilliams, will showcase improvisational styles in a small group setting.
- Music Arts Quintet--8 p.m. April 2 in Pruis Hall. Ball State University's Music Arts Quintet will perform in a faculty artist series concert. The quintet members are flutist Julia Mattern, clarinetist Stanley Geidel, bassoonist Keith Sweger, French horn player Fred Ehnes and oboe player Carrie Vecchione. They will perform works by Danzi, Etler and Jongen.
