MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State University is seeking to honor Indiana women who have enriched the lives of others through outstanding accomplishments and contributions to their profession.
Ball State's College of Sciences and Humanities is accepting nominations of Indiana women, either by birth or adoption, for the 2003 Perham Awards.
Specific categories include: leadership in education, particularly Mathematics Education; research in science or mathematics; leadership in community and/or university service; leadership within the business community; excellence in undergraduate or graduate student achievement; leadership in advocacy for women; leadership in women's health issues.
Other categories of distinguished accomplishments by and for women will also be considered.
The recipients will be honored Oct. 16 at the fourth annual Celebration for Indiana Women of Achievement.
The awards honor the memory of Bernadette H. Perham, a Ball State mathematical sciences professor for 16 years. She was known for her distinguished record of teaching, scholarship and service.
Perham was deeply committed to breaking down barriers to achievements for women and girls in all disciplines. She was active at the local, state and national levels on issues concerning women and girls.
Nominations require a letter specifying why the nominee should receive the award and a category describing the individual's major contribution.
Individuals nominating a woman for the awards should include their name, mailing address, and phone number along with the name, mailing address, phone number and e-mail address, if available, of the nominee.
Letters should be sent to Perham Awards Committee, College of Sciences and Humanities, Ball State University, North Quad 237, Muncie, IN 47306.
Nominations must have a postmark of no later than April 15 to be considered.
