Emens auditorium encourages patrons to use free shuttle service (2/12/2003)
MUNCIE, Ind.- Free tickets for upcoming shows and restaurant discounts are being used to entice patrons to ride the free shuttle for events at Ball State University's Emens Auditorium.

Everyone who rides the shuttle to the Feb. 15 Bill Cosby show will be entered to win tickets to upcoming Emens' performances such as "Swing," "Blast," "Madame Butterfly" and "The Spencers." Patrons who take their Cosby ticket stubs to the 909 Grille will receive a coupon for 10 percent off their next visit.

"I have patrons tell me that using the shuttle service helped them avoid traffic before and after the show," said Robert Myers, director of Emens Auditorium. "That's exactly why we hope more patrons will discover the shuttle service and continue to use it."

Emens has been offering the free service for the last three years for events it sponsors. Shuttles begin running one hour before each show and resume immediately after performances. The shuttle will pick up patrons at the shelter located on the south side of the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Parking Garage at McKinley Avenue and Gilbert Street and transport them to Emens' front door.

Maps can be found by logging onto www.bsu.edu/emensand clicking on "parking."

Typically, the wait for a ride takes between three and five minutes. The Student Center parking garage and surrounding green and yellow lots are safe, well lit and there is a fully enclosed shelter. The parking garage is free on weekends and costs $1 during the week. If the garage is full, parking is available in the nearby yellow and green lots and is open and free after 5 p.m.

The Cosby show could be one of the season's most hectic nights, Myers said. With two shows that are sold out, parking will be at a premium.

"We don't want parking and traffic snarls to tarnish a visit to Emens," Myers said. "Providing transportation to our front door is our way of helping ensure our patrons' night out will be as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible."
