The committee selected the candidates on the basis of reference calls made by committee members and the university’s consulting firm, Academic Search, said Frank Bracken, search committee chair and a member of the Ball State Board of Trustees.
At its Feb. 16 meeting, the committee had paired the list to 12 people to be considered.
"The committee is pleased with the quality of the semi-finalists and is confident that the search will be concluded by June 1," Bracken said.
The committee will interview the applicants at an executive session in Indianapolis, which is tentatively scheduled for March 9-10. The committee will then invite three to five candidates to participate in more extensive on-campus interviews with a broad rage of university constituents in late March.
Ball State President John E. Worthen announced in mid-1999 that he would step down as the university’s 11th president on June 30 after 16 years.
