Provost candidates to be interviewed (1/24/2002)
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Interviews have been scheduled with three candidates for the position of provost and vice president for academic affairs.

The candidates and their interview dates are:

Frederick Kitterle, dean of arts sciences at Northern Illinois University, Jan. 22-24.

Frederick Maryanski, vice chancellor for academic administration at the University of Connecticut, Feb. 12-14.

Beverley J. Pitts, associate provost at Ball State, Jan. 24-25.

Kitterle has held his current position for seven years. Previously he was dean of liberal arts at Stephen F. Austin University for three years. From 1984 to 1991 he was chair of the Department of Psychology at the University of Toledo, where he began his academic career in 1972. Kitterle is a well-published scholar with nearly 40 journal articles and two books to his credit. He has secured support and funding for a variety of academic programs within his colleges.

Maryanski has been at vice chancellor at Connecticut since 1997, serving as interim chancellor from 1999 to 2000. From 1989 to 1997 he was associate provost and from 1986 to 1989 he was chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering where he has been a professor since 1983. Maryanski is a published scholar with one book, several edited volumes and a dozen journal articles, nearly 60 scholarly presentations and several substantial grants to his credit.

Pitts has held her current position for nine years. Her prior administrative experience includes two years as assistant provost and executive director of research and undergraduate curriculum at Ball State. She was also director of academic assessment and general studies at Ball State and chair of the Department of Communications at Anderson University. She became an associate professor of journalism at Ball State in 1985. Pitts has written over 30 professional articles and co-authored one book.
