Professor named an ACE Fellow (3/2/2000)

Michael R. Stevenson

MUNCIE, Ind. – A Ball State University professor has been named an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow for the 2000-2001 academic year.

Michael R. Stevenson, a psychological science professor and director of the Diversity Policy Institute, is one of 34 faculty or administrators selected this year in a national competition.

The ACE Fellows program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen institutions and leadership in American higher education by identifying and preparing promising faculty and senior administrators for positions in college and university administration.

Stevenson will focus on an issue of concern to Ball State while spending the next academic year working with a college or university president and other senior officers at a host institution.

The fellow will be included in the highest level of the decision-making process while participating in administrative activities and contributing to a learning group exploring the project to benefit Ball State.

Fellows attend three week-long seminars on higher education issues organized by ACE, read extensively in the field, and engage in other activities to enhance their knowledge about the challenges and opportunities confronting higher education.

Most previous fellows have advanced into major positions in academic administration. The program has resulted in 1,000 participants eventually becoming provosts, vice presidents or deans, and another 250 being named chief executive officers.
