"Business Essentials for Professionals" is a graduate-level certificate program designed for Indianapolis-area individuals who have undergraduate degrees in non-business areas. Twelve hours of graduate credit and a professional certificate from Ball State will be earned upon completion of the program.
The certificate, which may be earned in two semesters, is the first of its kind to be offered in Indianapolis. Classes will be conducted at the Holiday Inn Northeast, located at 96th Street and I-69.
"People who graduate from college with degrees in liberal arts, education or engineering often take jobs in businesses without basic knowledge of financial, marketing or management principles," said Inga Hill, assistant to the dean for graduate programs in the College of Business.
"While they may learn important business knowledge on the job, they often want a broader understanding of business through a more formal education," she said.
The program consists of courses in accounting, finance, management and marketing. Two classes will be offered in the spring and summer during evening hours. The cost for the program is about $1,920. The program repeats next fall and spring semesters.
The certificate will be administered through Ball State's College of Business Graduate Programs office in cooperation with the School of Extended Education. These courses, which already exist in the university's MBA program, will be taught by full-time College of Business faculty.
Hill anticipates at least 30 students from the Indianapolis area participating in the program next spring. The certificate may also be earned by taking classes on the Ball State campus or participating in classes televised live by the Indiana Higher Education Television System (IHETS).
