MUNCIE, Ind. – Fans may now use charcoal grills to cook
hamburgers and hotdogs Saturday at Ball State University's homecoming football game.
The Indiana Fire Marshal's office issued a clarification of the term "open
burning" early Friday, said William Gosnell, director of the Delaware County
Emergency Management Agency.
The new definition allows charcoal grills on stadium grounds.
Lack of rain in the last two months in Indiana forced Gov. Frank O'Bannon to declare most of the state a fire hazard.
The Delaware County Commissioners also issued an emergency order earlier this week, prohibiting open fires and discarding of matches or lit cigarettes. Violators of the ban in Delaware County may be fined up to $2,500.
Ball State Stadium lots open at 9 a.m. Kick off for the game against Akron is 1 p.m.
