Speech pathology and audiology scholarship created by alumnus (12/2/2010)
Joe Rinard donated $25,000 to create the Dr. Joe R. and Alice Pursley Rinard Scholarship.

Alice Pursley Rinard earned her bachelor's degree in business from Ball State in 1954. She then earned her master's degree in speech and hearing from Ball State in 1963. At Ball State, Alice was a member of the Clavia Society, which became a chapter in the Mortar Board Society. She also was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Joe took pre-dental courses beginning in 1948 at Ball State. He graduated in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in dentistry from Indiana University and earned his DDS from Indiana University in 1955. At the IU School of Dentistry, Joe was elected to the dental honorary society of Omicron Kappa Upsilon.

The Rinards were graduates of Farmland High School and annually recognize the valedictorian and salutatorian from Monroe Central High School in Randolph County, into which their alma mater consolidated. They also are members of the IU President's Circle.

Recipients of the Dr. Joe R. and Alice Pursley Rinard Scholarship must be at least juniors majoring in speech pathology and audiology with a strong record of academic achievement as determined by a minimum overall and major grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale. Availability of the scholarship is dependent upon an award selection process established by Ball State and its academic departments. For specifics about this scholarship, contact the speech pathology and audiology department at 765-285-8161.

For more information about this gift and others at Ball State, contact the Ball State University Foundation at 765-285-8315 or visit www.bsu.edu/bsufoundation.
