The International Academy of the Visual Arts awarded Ball State's student-run radio station, WCRD, four silver Awards of Distinction at the 16th annual Communicator Awards ceremony.

"This is another well-deserved set of awards for our student-run and FCC-licensed radio station here at Ball State," said Barry Umansky, professor of telecommunications and faculty adviser for WCRD.

Ball State received silver Awards of Distinction in:

• Commercials – Production/Use of Music, "Scarevania Spot"
• News – Production/Editing, "Governor Howard Dean"
• Productions – Production/Use of Music, "To Make Your Request"
• Programs – On-Air Talent/Radio Personality, "Pleasant Valley Sunday"

With a state-of-the-art broadcast studio within the David Letterman Communication and Media Building and a fiber optics link to a transmitter site on campus, the station offers the highest technical quality radio sound in Indiana, with signal coverage reaching to all of Delaware County, Umansky said.

"As faculty advisor to the station, I'm very proud of our student broadcasters and grateful that they are able to learn and produce in such a sophisticated broadcast facility," he said.
