Ball State students earn six regional Emmy nominations (5/8/2002)
MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State University has been nominated for six regional Emmy broadcasting awards.

A group of faculty, staff and students from Ball State's telecommunications department will attend ceremonies June 8 at the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cleveland chapter of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences is the host.

This is the third consecutive year Ball State has been nominated. The school won two Emmys in 2001 and was nominated for three awards in 2000.

"Our mantra is to push the envelope and do a better job each year," said Tim Pollard, telecommunications professor. "The increase in nominations is an example of our efforts.

"This is the first year we've had students nominated for professional-level Emmys," he said. "We believe it indicates the high level of student talent we have here at Ball State. They are just getting better each year."

The Emmy-nominated broadcasts were aired on WIPB-TV, Ball State's Public Broadcasting System station, or the university's cable access channels.

The Cleveland chapter includes television stations in Akron/Canton, Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo, all in Ohio; Bloomington, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis and Muncie in Indiana; and Erie, Pa.
