Called "musically sophisticated and artistically daring" by the Chicago Tribune and "a masterpiece" by Billboard, Allen is known for her infectious enthusiasm, creative arrangements and imaginative choices in repertoire, from jazz to contemporary.

Allen will conclude the concert series at 8 p.m. March 4 in Sursa Performance Hall.

The performance will feature different music styles, such as Burt Bacharach's "A House Is Not a Home," poignant jazz ballad "Blame It on My Youth" and Jimi Hendrix's classic "Manic Depression."

Allen's last CD, "Tangled," received four stars from People Magazine, and her previous CD, "Love Is Blue," remained on the top 15 of the Billboard charts for 12 weeks.

"This is the first time Arts Alive has brought in an artist from the world of jazz," said Meryl Mantione, School of Music director. "It's an exciting opportunity for the College of Fine Arts. The popular jazz genre appeals to the many students in the School of Music's jazz program, along with the community members."

Allen, who is on the faculty of the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts, is married to Hans Sturm, a Ball State professor of music.
