Two Ball State employees will represent the entire United States at a conference in Thailand later this month.

Dianna Lampitt and Frank Adams will travel to Bangkok, Thailand, to attend an international distance-learning workshop at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) from Oct. 29 to Nov. 1. The workshop will have delegates from around the world, including Japan, Australia and Germany.

"I'm going to attempt to create different collaborations for distance education courses with not only KMITL but other universities that are being represented there as well," said Adams, Ball State's director of international communications.

Adams said Ball State was chosen to represent the U.S. because it has worked closely with universities in Thailand on distance-learning projects.

"KMITL is the organizer of this conference, and we have been such a mentor for them," Adams said. "They're really trying to use us as a resource to improve their distance education. And that's not with KMITL - that's nationwide in Thailand."

Lampitt, special projects manager, will discuss immersive-learning programs with the delegates from other universities, whose students would come to Ball State for short-term immersive learning experiences.

"She will try to set up relationships," Adams said.
