Open forums scheduled for assistant provost for international education candidates (3/28/2002)
MUNCIE, Ind. - Open forums are scheduled for four candidates for assistant provost for international education at Ball State University.

The person chosen for this new position will coordinate all activities in international education, including the Center for International Programs, and will work closely with the provost, college deans and department chairs to develop and carry out strategies for study abroad programs, international student recruitment and retention, faculty development, curriculum, global partnerships and other new opportunities.

All forums are from 2-3 p.m. in Bracken Library Room 225.

The forum dates and the candidates are:

  • April 3: Cyrus Reed, director, International Trade Division, Indiana Department of Commerce, Indianapolis. Reed has held his current position since 2001. He is on leave from the American University in Cairo, Egypt, where he is director of African Studies. He was visiting senior research scholar in the African Studies Program at Indiana University at Bloomington (1988-1991).
  • April 9: Thomas Ricks, director of international studies and adjunct associate professor of history, Center for Arab and Islamic Studies, Villanova University, Villanova, Pa. Previously, he was visiting associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania (1996-1998), and assistant professor for the departments of history at Birzeit University (1983-1985), and Georgetown University (1975-1983).
  • April 16: Mathilda Esformes Harris, director of international studies, University of Central Florida at Orlando. Previous to her current position, she was director of the Center for International Development in Arlington, Va. (1994-1997 and 1986-1989). She served as assistant vice president for international programs for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, Washington, D.C. (1992-1994), and director of international programs at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, (1989-1992).
  • April 24: George Eisen, executive director of international education, William Paterson University, Wayne, N.J. Previously he was director of international education at Central Connecticut State University (1997-2000) and director of the Institute for Regional and International Studies, California State Polytechnic University at Pomona (1993-1997).  In 1993 he was acting director of the Baltic Center for North American Studies at the University of Tartu in Estonia.
