
Some of her contributions include designing one of the state's first programs to integrate curriculums to better teach preschool children speech and language skills. Thornburg also designed a graduate level course to provide continuing education to help professionals retain their educational licenses.
Since becoming a member in 1962, Thornburg has served the organization in various capacities and has been a member of numerous committees.
"I like to do things that support my profession because it is very important and helps a lot of people," said Thornburg. "I have put in a lot of time and effort over the years and it is nice to be recognized by my profession."
