Nicholas Johnson and Adam Hicks won the Creativity + Innovation Award for the month of February for their work to produce "The Terri Dreams."

The performance was adapted from a short story by Ball State student Anthony Settineri and focuses on a man who has been given nothing and pursues the love of his life. The twist is that the woman only exists in his dreams.

The production fused five prerecorded dream segments and a real-time performance to create a continuous film. Sixty students from a variety of majors were involved in the production, which included rotoscoping to bring the story to life.

"The project is an immense undertaking," said Keith Kothman, associate professor of music. "The ability to integrate all of these elements into a single production is a particularly worthy achievement."

The faculty judges were impressed with the ambitiousness and innovative nature of the project, especially how two undergraduate students coordinated such a large-scale effort.

Johnson, a senior from Lafayette, is majoring in music technology. For the project, he was the co-producer and composed the music for one of the dreams.

Hicks, a senior from Lafayette, is majoring in telecommunications. He was also a co-producer and directed the final dream segment.

The Creativity + Innovation awards spotlight creative achievements and outstanding projects of undergraduate Ball State students in good academic standing.

Nomination forms for the award can be submitted by anyone involved in the project, including faculty and staff members. New winners are chosen each month by a panel of faculty judges, and winning projects are featured on the Web site www.bsu.edu/portfolio.
