MUNCIE, Ind. - Seven Ball State University faculty members have
received summer awards from the Fisher
Institute for Wellness and Gerontology for curriculum development or
research projects on studies of aging.
The awards serve as incentives to faculty to include information and
education about an aging society to all students across disciplines and in
all areas of study.
Recipients and their projects are:
- Denise H. Amschler, Physiology and Health Sciences, inclusion of a unit on "Osteoporosis: Prevention, Detection and Treatment" in Women and Health.
- Bruce W. Craig, Physical Education, study on "The Effects of Acute Androstenedione Supplementation on Exercise Testosterone Levels in Older Men."
- Theresa Kruczek, Counseling Psychology, inclusion of a unit on late life personality in Introduction to the Study of Personality.
- Peter Murk, Educational Leadership, multicultural study on "Third Age Learners" and development of a unit on results of the study in psychology of adult adjustment.
- Robert U. Newton, Physical Education, inclusion of aging specific information in kinesiology, advanced biomechanics and clinical biomechanics courses.
- Rai Peterson, English, project to expose students to the "Impact of Aging" in a 15-hour seminar on "The Making of Americans" taught through the Virginia B. Ball Center for Creative Inquiry.
- Tom Robinson, Journalism, development of a major project focusing on the "senior market" in Advertising Copy and Layout.
