The program is a partnership between Ball State and the University of Memphis with two German universities, the largest broadcast company in Europe and the U.S. Consulate in Frankfurt.
Students may study at a partner university at their regular tuition cost and also participate in an internship program. The exchange program is slated to begin next fall and is open to students in telecommunications, journalism and related fields.
Ball State President Blaine Brownell and other university officials recently met with representatives from the German broadcast company ZDF Television, the University of Mainz, Wiesbaden University of Applied Sciences and the University of Memphis to formalize the agreement.
The program is another step in the further globalization of Ball State and its programs, said Scott Olson, dean of the College of Communication, Information and Media.
“Ball State students will have a wonderful opportunity to study communication and media at schools in the Frankfurt area,” Olson said. “They will then have an opportunity to apply what they have learned at ZDF. Numerous Ball State students have already expressed interest in attending.”
The program expands the exchange and scholarship opportunities for students and faculty in the fields of journalism, media management, communication and theater.
“We envision new faculty exchanges and many new collaborative projects with our partner universities,” Olson said. “This is another opportunity for Ball State to play a role in global education.”
