Communications Manager
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Jeremy Sieber of Greenwood, Ind., has received Ball State University's College of Fine Arts Dean's Purchase Award for an etching he created as an art student.
Margaret Merrion, dean of Ball State's College of Fine Arts, presented the third-annual award to Sieber for his intaglio self-portrait "Wabe Sabe (Beauty in Rot)," which will be hung in Merrion's office in the Arts and Communication Building.
"Wabe Sabe" (pronounced WAH-BEE SAH-BEE) was exhibited in the Ball State Museum of Art this spring as part of the art department's 63rd Annual Student Art Show. The Japanese-titled work won Sieber a juror's award.
The image explores time, beauty and mortality and is a product of Sieber's experiences in downtown areas.
Sieber graduated from Ball State in May with a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting. He plans to study printmaking at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.
Sieber is the son of Bill and Suzanne Yost, 2256 Woodsway Drive, Greenwood, and a graduate of Center Grove High School. He is originally from Bloomington, Ind.
