Teachers College and the College of Business are jointly sponsoring the Center for Economic Education. Teachers College had been the sole sponsor of the organization in recent years.
The center provides K-12 economic education services to area teachers, preparing students to become economically literate workers, savers, investors and consumers.
The collaborative effort brings additional resources to the center, expanding opportunities for area educators, said Lynne Richardson, dean of the College of Business.
“Being partners with Teachers College provides a wonderful opportunity to marry the two colleges together in the interest of both economics and education,” she said.
“Joint sponsorship assures stronger advocacy, shared resources and an expanded vision for what the center might become, said Roy Weaver, dean of Teachers College.
The center, headed by DeVon Yoho, an economics professor, provides:
- Information on what every student should know about economics.
- Workshops and courses for teachers to improve student learning.
- Comprehensive education programs for K-12 students.
- Books and materials containing proven strategies for teaching economics.
- Instruments for assessing student performance.
