After soliciting sponsors to raise funds, Relay for Life teams camp out on LaFollette Field and team members take turns walking or running around the track during the 12-hour celebration. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times. The event is a time to celebrate cancer survivors and honor those who have died, as well as an opportunity to raise money for cancer research and raise awareness about the disease.
Teams from various student organizations and residence halls, as well as faculty, staff and community members are invited to participate in this year's relay. The event will feature entertainment, food, games and live bands throughout the night.
"Relay for Life is such a great cause. Not only is it an exciting way to help raise money for the American Cancer Society, but it is also a great reminder of those who have passed away from cancer, are survivors or are battling cancer right now," said Katie Geiman, a member of CAC. "There are many different ways to get involved with Ball State's Relay for Life, and we would love to see more participation than ever this year."
Every hour there will be a themed lap around the track, with the first lap dedicated to cancer survivors. A special luminaria ceremony will take place to remind participants why they are there.
Anyone interested in participating in Relay for Life is encouraged to visit the online registration site at http://cac.iweb.bsu.edu or contact Geiman at kngeiman@bsu.edu.
