Students from the College of Architecture and Planning have designed mixed-use buildings on vacant sites in historic downtown Muncie as a way to regenerate activity in the urban fabric. This "hybrid building" exhibit will be on display at four downtown Muncie locations throughout the month of February.
"MunciePM: The Hybrid Building" opened Feb. 2 at the Muncie Civic Center and will be on display throughout the month at the following locations :
- Muncie Civic Center Lobby, 216 E. Main St.
- Jack's Camera Shop, 308 E. Main St. (just to the east of the shop)
- Downtown Development Office, 407 S. Walnut St.
- MUDS (Muncie Urban Design Studio), 626 S. Walnut St.
"In creating this program, we are striving to strengthen the 'place' of downtown Muncie as an enriching destination, while improving the quality of life for residents," said Pam Harwood, associate professor of architecture. "The students developed an analysis of the area and worked to create a unique mix of artistic, cultural, educational, intellectual and hospitality activities."
