Emily Ryder, a senior from Vincennes, has been named the recipient of the Robert E. Kennett Memorial Scholarship for the spring semester at Ball State.
The scholarship honors Kennett, the late 27-year employee of Ball State's Residence Halls Dining Service (RHDS). He was assistant manager at Woodworth and Studebaker halls before becoming RHDS purchasing agent in 1986.
A retired U.S. Army veteran of Korea and Vietnam, Kennett was a lifetime member of the Anderson chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. Phyllis Kennett, his widow, is bookkeeper for Woodworth Plaza but is currently assigned to LaFollette while Woodworth is closed for renovation.
Students eligible for the scholarship must be full-time undergraduates with at least sophomore standing. Priority is given to marketing majors from central Indiana. Accounting and family and consumer sciences students are also eligible.
Recipients need not demonstrate financial need, but preference is given to students who might not be able to continue education without assistance. The desire for education is the largest determining factor.
