"This was a great opportunity to meet students, learn more about our student organizations and discover how faculty are serving these organizations," Gora said. "I came away quite impressed by how engaged our students and faculty are in organizations that represent a broad spectrum of interests, and we know being involved contributes to the academic success of these students."
National research shows that students who join organizations have higher retention and graduation rates than students who do not take part in an organized activity.
"The passion and commitment displayed by these students made it clear to me that they are making significant contributions to campus life at Ball State and to the local community," Gora said. "Their associations with these organizations are also helping them develop skills that will serve them well as they progress in their careers."
The president said the success of the reception convinced her to make it an annual event.
