
“Ball State is already providing a lot of interdisciplinary programs, minors and other options of study, but this will help focus and provide consistency to these efforts,” said Lowe.
Since 1994 Lowe has been dean of University College, a division of Ball State providing support services such as freshman advising and peer tutoring to enhance students’ academic success.
As University College dean, Lowe will continue overseeing freshman academic advising, the Learning Center and coordinating the university’s core curriculum, the liberal arts component required of all Ball State graduates. He reports to Beverley Pitts, associate provost.
Lowe has been at Ball State since 1973, when he came here as a professor in the natural resources department. From 1990-94 he was director of general studies and academic programs.
He holds a doctorate degree in geography from the University of Tennessee. He holds a master’s degree in geography and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Marshall University in West Virginia.
