Specific categories for the Women of Achievement Awards include: leadership in education, particularly in mathematics or science education; research in science or mathematics; leadership in community and/or university service; leadership within the business community; leadership in advocacy for women; and leadership in women's health issues. Other categories will also be considered.
Perham Scholarship recipients will be college seniors or graduate students in fall 2005 who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership.
The recipients will be recognized on Oct. 26 during a dinner dedicated to the memory of Bernadette H. Perham, a Ball State mathematical sciences professor for 16 years. She was a pioneer in breaking down the barriers to achievement for women and girls in all disciplines. It will be the sixth annual awards celebration.
Nominations require a letter describing the nominee's major contributions and identifying an appropriate category for the award. A current résumé of the nominee, if available, is useful. Individuals nominating a woman should include their name, mailing address and telephone number along with the name, mailing address, telephone number and e-mail address, if available, of the nominee.
Letters should be sent to Fred Meyer, Department of Political Science, North Quad 237, Ball State University, Muncie, IN 47306. Nominations must be postmarked no later than May 15 to be considered.
