British educator to discuss U.K. educational developments April 15 (4/6/2005)
British educator Ralph Waller will discuss "Recent Developments in Education in the U.K." April 15 at Ball State University.

Waller, principal of Harris Manchester College of the University of Oxford, will give his presentation at 11 a.m. in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center, Forum Room. The event,  free and open to the public, is sponsored by Ball State's Office of the Provost.

An ordained minister of the Methodist church and a leading scholar on 19th-century theologian James Martineau, Waller was named principal of Harris Manchester in 1988. Under his leadership, the college has undertaken significant endowment initiatives, improved its physical plant, and engaged in programmatic planning. The college has also become known for its services to non-traditional students within the University of Oxford system.

Waller received a master's of theology from the University of Nottingham and a doctorate from the University of London. He has served in a variety of positions from a teacher of mathematics in India to chaplain at the University of Durham.

A long-time supporter of Ball State since his time as chaplain at Westminster College in Oxford, Waller has hosted both Ball State faculty and Honors College students in Oxford. In 1998, he was awarded the honorary doctorate of humanities by Ball State.
