High school students can earn college credit (6/11/1997)
UPDATE: This is an archived article from 1997. This program is no longer offered.

MUNCIE, Ind. -- Outstanding high school students can live on campus and earn college credit during the summer through the Honors College Summer Program at Ball State University.

The program, which runs from July 13 to July 25 (see UPDATE note above), encourages high school students who have just completed their sophomore or junior years to enroll in one of nine classes and gain three semester hours of transferable college credits. This unique program, offered for the 18th year, is designed to introduce students to university life and provide a head start to college careers.

Classes, taught by Ball State faculty, include: Drawing I; Survey of Economic Ideas; Introduction to Creative Writing: Prose; Introduction to Manufacturing Industries; Contemporary Mathematics and Technology; General Psychology; Electronic Media Revolution; and Musical Theatre Workshop.

Program participants receive university scholarships that pay in-state or out-of-state tuition for one course. Each student pays $385 for room and board during the two-week session. This does not include the costs of books, materials, travel and/or personal expenses.

Applications must be submitted to the Honors College by July 3. Because class sizes are small to guarantee maximum educational benefits to each student, early application is strongly encouraged.

For application forms and more information, contact Ball State's Honors College at (765) 285-1024.
