A residence hall wellness program at Ball State University helped register students to vote and will follow up with them on Election Day to determine if they went to the polls.
The Studebaker Wellness Headquarters registered 120 student voters in Studebaker West Halls. The registrants agreed to return a postcard after the election if they voted. The number of returned postcards will reveal how successful the registration drive was in encouraging students to vote.
"Many of the habits begun in college carry over into the rest of our lives," said Kelly Schoonaert, the program supervisor. "It's important to get college students involved in the election process so they establish that habit."
The wellness program took up the voting project because responsible citizenship is an important part of the wellness approach, she said.
