Ball State to show Chinese films as part of Focus on Asia month (10/21/2004)
Chinese-language films highlight the "Focus on Asia" observance in November at Ball State University.

The monthlong event highlights the history, culture and contributions of Asian nations. The observance is sponsored by the Asian Studies Committee, the Asian-American Student Association and the Office of Asian Studies. A majority of events are free and open to the public.

The films, which are free and open to the public, begin at 7:30 p.m. in Pruis Hall. Each movie is 90 minutes in length and has English subtitles.

The movies include:

  • Nov. 3 – "The Accused" looks at a remote mountain village in China and its leader who is under investigation for opening private mail, making arrests and setting punishments without due process.
  • Nov. 10 – "Too Late to Apologize" focuses on an elderly man whose dream is to educate the children of his hometown by opening a bookstore and a library. The movie's theme is based on the importance of education and the responsibility each person has to their children and future generations.

Co-sponsored by the College of Communication, Information, and Media and China Century Entertainment, the films will introduce Chinese culture and filmmaking to Muncie and the Ball State community.
