Provost Warren Vander Hill will officially turn the plan over to President Blaine Brownell on April 11 at a reception for the task force. The reception is from 5-7 p.m. at the E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center.
"This is an important document because it will serve as a guide for the university from 2001-2006," Vander Hill said. "The task force was pleased with the overall input from faculty, staff, students, alumni and people in the community. Many of their suggestions were incorporated into the final draft to make it a stronger document."
While serving as a guide, the strategic plan will be a living document that will allow university leaders to change and adapt it to address new challenges and opportunities as they arise.
Brownell will send copies of the document to the Ball State Board of Trustees within the next week. It will also be distributed to alumni and other key constituent groups in the coming weeks.
The 25-member task force was formed last fall at the request of Brownell, who had previously worked at several universities operating under strategic plans.
During a public comment period in January and February, the task force received 475 responses via phone calls, letters, e-mail, faxes and open forums, which were held in many areas of the university.
Based on this external and internal input, the group met regularly from mid-February to late-March to revise the document, adding a vision statement, rewriting the mission statement as well as some goals and objectives. The measures of the strategic plan also were reduced and more sharply defined in order to make the plan more manageable, Vander Hill said.
The next step will be to develop a means to monitor the plan's success," he said. "I am going to work on that task in the next few months."
