Ball State basketball fans may support scholarship program (1/4/2001)
MUNCIE, Ind. - Every time the Ball State University men’s basketball team scores a bucket against Eastern Michigan on Feb. 3, students will win.

Basketball fans are being asked to participate in the second annual Hoops for Scholars program. By pledging a few dollars for each jumper, layup or three pointer, individuals may help defray the cost of scholarships for students attending Ball State.

Up to 50 percent of a pledge may be allocated to any scholarship program maintained by the Ball State University Foundation. Ball State’s intercollegiate athletic program will receive at least 50 percent of all pledges.

Hoops for Scholars pledge cards and information brochures will be available at all home games in January.

Steve Lindell, a radio personality with WLBC-FM, and Greg Pyle, a local dentist and a member of the Cardinal Varsity Club, the official fund-raising organization for Ball State intercollegiate athletics, are the chairmen of the Hoops for Scholars program.

The program is sponsored by Mutual Federal Savings Bank. The financial institution is also sponsoring the Money Booth at upcoming basketball games. Lucky fans have an opportunity to grab several hundred dollars while in the booth.
