An advocate for unity and acceptance among different cultural groups speaks Oct. 1 as part of Latino Student Union Week at Ball State University.
Rodney Goines, founder and CEO of Inter-Cultural Services of Hamilton County, speaks on "Issues Between Hispanic, African, and Asian-American Students" at 6 p.m. in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center Forum Room. He will discuss the origins of issues and conflicts, how the media plays into them and what members of society should know.
The week kicks off Sept. 29 with Ball State history professor Abel Alves speaking on "Immigration Issues in America" at 5 p.m. in the Student Center Cardinal Hall A. Other activities include a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 in the Scheidler Apartments community building and a salsa dance at 7 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Student Center Tally.
Movie night at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3 in Pruis Hall features the story of Frida Kahlo, a prominent and controversial Mexican painter who lived between 1907 and 1954. "Frida" stars Salma Hayek and Alfred Molina and depicts how the artist lived through her paintings.
