Being a Ball State University trustee is a great way to help students and the state, Kyle Mitchell says.

Gov. Frank O'Bannon has named the junior from Fishers as the student representative to Ball State's Board of Trustees.

"Kyle Mitchell shows a great willingness to listen to diverse viewpoints and a determination to help as many students as possible," O'Bannon said. "That's why he makes a fine choice as student trustee."

Mitchell begins his two-year term immediately.

"The primary goal of the university is to provide the residents of Indiana and the students with the best, most cost-effective education possible," Mitchell said. "I believe it's our duty to provide the best we can with the resources available."

As a trustee, Mitchell said he plans to work to highlight Ball State's outstanding programs in such fields as architecture, entrepreneurship and telecommunications.

"I'll want the people of Indiana to know that Ball State provides high quality education without a high price tag," Mitchell said.

Mitchell is the son of Mike and Sherry Quinn of Fishers. Both parents are Indiana University graduates.

"My parents encouraged me to go to IU," he said. "But I like the programs here. Ball State is not such a big campus and everyone knows each other."

Service comes naturally to Mitchell. He serves as philanthropy and community service chair for Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

"Everyone at Ball State works hard to give students everything they need," Mitchell said. "I look forward to the opportunity to help guide Ball State's future. This university will only keep getting better."
