Various construction projects will continue affecting campus parking and access to some streets throughout the summer.
Construction begins Monday and continues through Aug. 20 on a utility tunnel to the new Art and Journalism Building.
The work will take place just north of the Berwyn Road and McKinley Avenue connection. McKinley will be excavated to allow for this construction activity.
However, McKinley will remain open during construction, said Jim Lowe, director of engineering for Facilities Planning and Management.
A temporary gravel road will be available around the west edge of this activity. Traffic will be able to flow over the west sidewalk to the temporary road and around the construction site.
Traffic flow will be slowed during this period. Pedestrian flow around the site will be maintained but somewhat inconvenient, said Lowe.
In another project related to the new building, Petty Road will continue to be closed until June 21 to all vehicles but maintenance traffic, west of McKinley to the west side of the Robert Bell Building. This closure is necessary to allow for installation of underground chilled water pipe lines.
In other construction activity, several yellow lots, specifically G-26,G-27 and G-24, located along the block bordered by McKinley, Riverside and Calvert have been closed due to the demolition of several Ball State houses.
The demolition is to make room for a planned music instruction building. During the transition time, much of the block will be used for temporary parking spaces to alleviate parking problems due to other construction projects.
Due to increased construction in the area of Studebaker Complex, New York and Neely avenues are posted for "Construction Only," which means parking along those streets is not allowed for anyone besides contractors. This does not close any street.
Because of the heavy amount of summer construction and lot closures. Public Safety is strictly enforcing parking regulations stating that red permits are limited to an assigned red restricted lot.
It is not intended that red permits be allowed to park in a yellow or green lot unless the assigned red lot is full, according to Joe Wehner, director of Public Safety.
