Jan Boxill, associate chair for the Department of Philosophy and lecturer at the University of North Carolina, will discuss "The Significance of Title IX" at 7:30 p.m. April 21 and "Sport as a Public Forum for Ethics" at 10 a.m. April 22. Both lectures, free and open to the public, will be in the L. A. Pittenger Student Center, Cardinal Hall B.
Her presentations are sponsored by Ball State's Center for Sport, Ethics and Culture and the George and Frances Ball Fund for Academic Excellence.
A native of Worcester, N.Y., Boxill received her bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles. At UCLA, she was a member of the women's basketball team. She has taught philosophy at UCLA, California State University at Los Angeles, the University of Kentucky, the University of Tampa and the University of North Carolina, where she has been since 1985.
While at the University of Tampa, she was also women's basketball coach from 1981-84 and was recognized as Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year in 1984.
At the University of North Carolina, Boxill also serves as the public address announcer for women's basketball games and field hockey, and the radio color commentator for women's road basketball games.
