
Ball State President Jo Ann M. Gora (center holding statuettes) joins a group of Ball State students and recent graduates honored Sept. 17 at the 36th annual Cleveland Regional Emmy Awards Show. The university has earned 43 regional Emmy nominations since 2000 and has taken home 18 statuettes in the past four years.
Students, faculty, staff and alumni have earned 43 regional Emmy nominations since 2000, including five for 2005, and have taken home 16 statuettes in the past five years.
"This accomplishment says a great deal about the quality of our telecommunications program," said Roger Lavery, dean of the College of Communication, Information, and Media. "I would like to note that our students were very gracious in their acceptance speeches, and each of them acknowledged the guidance and support they received from the university and our faculty."
Recipients include:
- Student producers Emily Boone, a senior from Jeffersonville, and Anthony Kubek, a 2005 graduate from Lansing, Ill., and faculty producer Jim Shasky, telecommunications instructor, in the public service announcement category for "Even Experts Make Mistakes."
- Jaron Henrie-McCrea, a 2005 graduate from Indianapolis, director of "Cardinal Stage and Screen: Rose" for WIPB-TV in the crafts: director-tape/film category.
- Executive producers Katie Rubeck, a 2005 graduate from Spencer, and Sarah Grote, a 2005 graduate from Batesville; director Rick Babusiak, a junior from Bradenton, Fla.; producers Chad Cooper, a former student from Kendallville, Adam Clark, a senior from Winamac, and Henrie-McCrea for "Connections Live" in the magazine format programs category.
Henrie-McCrea, who has won regional Emmys the past two years and recently earned a Student Academy Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, also was nominated in the feature entertainment category for "Times Square Dance" and "Marry This." Formerly of Indianapolis, he is currently attending graduate school at Columbia University.
